INDIAN SPEAKER PROBLEM :                                                                                                                                                      During the production of “s” many Indian speakers replace /∫/ with /s/.this is a problem to them to differentiate /s/ and/∫/ in pronunciation./s/ is alveolar fricative whereas /∫/is post alveolar fricative. But in Indian Mothertongue they are of the same allophones. In pronouncing a word beginning with/∫/ we can encounter that there is an undertone of /j/in the sound of /∫/ as in ‘shave’ ( /∫eiv/)or in ‘shame’(/∫eim/).But in case of /s/ there is a direct pronunciation as in “same”(/seim/) or in “save”(/seiv/).Here it is the main problem in articulating the “Homophones”.                                                                                     In pronunciation of “mission” the correct pronunciation is  (/mi∫∂n/),but the Indian speakers ,to make the pronunciation ornamented ,sound it like “miss-i-on”. They first make a short note on /s/for the ‘ss’, then pronounce ‘-ion’; but the original way is to pronounce the /∫/clearly.
